There's a lot in there, but it understandably forgoes assessing any political implications. 

Every day Republicans stall, it lessens the scale of impact conceding to the Democrats will have; to the politically disinterested, it may create a sort of 'this is what you were fighting for, wtf?'

* enrollees who qualify for the subsidies will initially pay the full rate in January

* the consumer would likely be repaid in a tax refund (04/26 - 04/27)

* enrollees will forego health insurance coverage altogether after seeing the initial steep price hikes.

1) why are they only voting on H.R. 5371 and not S. 2882 anymore? 

2) Is there a limit to the amount of times the same version of a bill can be voted on before it automatically gets kicked back down to the house? Or can it be put up for vote as often as they like?


3) is there a way to see what’s on the agenda to be voted on by the senate on a day to day basis? I’ve tried checking the website but couldn’t find anything.

I'm always struck with how passive and seemingly indifferent CNN is about all the fascism to the point a comedian had to tell Boris Sanchez to give more of a shit. They'll report on the shutdown and then like 5 seconds later Taylor Swift as if the fascism is just a topic that will resolve itself without the gravitas it actually deserves. 

It's why the Daily Show and Colbert Report were actually more vital in reporting the news as beyond the comedy there was an actual level of seriousness and bite that actual televised news outlets lacked and still lack. 

John Oliver and the current Daily Show continue to do this but social media has kind of overtaken their effectiveness.

That old school journalism belief that you're just the messenger and are not allowed to have feelings is antiquated when one party wants to dismantle government, censor media, and has military in the streets. The people you see on a daily basis on 24 hour news just come off as uncaring assholes in how they cover this stuff.

It's really sad how proven it is that people simply will not care about an issue until the consequences of that issue are directly affecting them.

We're walking into a recession because people aren't losing money on a wide scale *right now*. Warnings abounded for Trump's policies before the election, and some people only noticed after he won and implemented them. The Democrat messaging during the shutdown has been "you are going to lose your benefits and healthcare", and people across the country won't pay attention until it's already gone.

So much of this country receives federal benefits while consistently voting for the party trying to take them away, because either they don't know what gets federally funded, or they don't think the benefits *they* get will go away. People need to feel what it's like for the government to be shut down for a month to understand what it means when it's not there.

Day 3548348 of reminding people *if you can* to be prepared to help your community if SNAP benefits do end up stopping. Be very familiar with your local food pantries, see how/when they take donations, see if you can get them to create an Amazon wishlist so that people don't feel like they have to physically go in to donate. My township in IL did this and it's been very helpful in getting more donations. Canned goods tend to go low at ours first, if you've got stragglers in your garden for the end of the season a lot of pantries would be thrilled to receive fresh produce. If you're a couponer, now is a great time to see what deals you can get on essential products that some pantries give out alongside food, such as hygiene products. Aldi is doing a $40 Thanksgiving meal where if you shop their list of products, the total should come out around $40 and is meant to serve 10 people. If you know people who could use this, make sure they know about it, or use it as a tool to get these items to bring to the local pantries. Donate some holiday staples like instant mashed potatoes/bags of potatoes, gravy packets, canned green beans, etc. And of course, encourage the people around you to utilize these resources if they exist. They want to help, they want to get the food out there that would otherwise go to waste.

It can't be said enough that the situation Republicans are preparing their constituents to accept is one where midterms next year are openly rigged or canceled outright for the sake of "protecting the country".

* Every single person who attempted to violently overthrow Congress was exonerated, regardless of their convictions, because it was to keep the current president in power.

* A Democrat is not being sworn in to the House because she would be the final signature to *potentially* implicate the president.

* The vice president is defending actual Nazi rhetoric being said by heads of political recruiters because they were Republicans.

* Prominent critics and investigators of the president are getting federally indicted, *after* the president accidentally told his AG to go after them publicly.

* The president has openly said and reposted remarks declaring the Democrat party both stupid and evil, with no intent to negotiate with them.

* Representatives of red states have come out in open support of biased redistricting because it helps to preserve their majority.

* The president commuted the sentence of a Republican former congressman, explicitly stating that it was because he voted with Republicans.

* The press secretary called Democrat supporters various forms of terrorists and criminals, and refused to retract that statement in any way.

* The president has used the excuse of "emergency powers" to completely bypass congress and other procedures to have more and more direct power.

This is rhetoric that is happening the *year* before midterms. They are openly declaring loyalty to be rewarded with leniency for all words and deeds, while calling the only other prominent party a threat to the country itself that has to be dealt with by any means. Even if it was simply to motivate their base to support them regardless of all their unfulfilled promises, there will be *demands* to rig the midterms. And the more power-hungry Republicans will go along with it, pretending to be "reflecting the will of the people" when they know damn well that they're the ones who teed up their power grab from the start.

I was in military during 18-19 shutdown and remember some civilian counterparts not coming to work and we had to pick up all of their work. Shit sucked but we were all told we'll get paid and some civs still showed up hoping for backpay and they didn't really have much choice. It was also during christmas break so it felt pretty short.

Can't imagine what they are going through now with all this talk of no guaranteed backpay.. They just love fucking people over using them as political pawns
